Varėnos geležinkelio stotis is a railway station in the southern part of Varėna city, at Savanorių g. 3, southeast of Varėna church. Passenger trains run on the Vilnius–Varėna–Marcinkonys route. The interior of the station is decorated with motifs from the works of Lithuanian artist M. K. Čiurlionis, who was born in Old Varėna. At the end of World War I, after the first wooden station building was destroyed, a new brick building was erected, which was completely destroyed during World War II. The current brick station was opened in 1954. The former railway workers' hall has survived – a hall located on the other side of the railway in a yellow brick building dating from the Tsarist era. After 1920, it briefly housed a bilingual Polish school, later belonged to the Polish KOP battalion and their riflemen. From July 1944 to December 1954, the building housed the station administration and ticket office. In the square between the railway and bus stations stands a monument commemorating the residents of Varėna and its surroundings who were deported from Varėnos railway station between 1941 and 1952 (sculptor Alfonsas Ambraziūnas, architect A. Klyza), unveiled on June 14, 1991.
